Janssen News: 10/1/99

Hi Family!

Kay & Gerald have determined to simplify their lives to ease the pressures of a household full of people working, learning, and playing all day and night. So, they'll not be on-line for awhile. Actually, they still do email, so go back to the big list and send them some mail. Hopefully, Kay will continue to furnish us news so we can keep current!

A Janssen Update: 7/1/99

Hi Family!

June is already over and I feel like the summer just got started! I am watching two girls this summer, a 6 year old and a 9 year old. So far we have completed 1 round of swimming lessons, played tons of games, had one fantastic week at Vacation Bible School ( I had Kindergartners this year - they have lots of energy!), been to countless softball games and practices, and spent a few days by the pool. We are spending 4th of July weekend at home, and then we will start round 2 of swim lessons.

Mom was here for a visit over Mother's Day weekend, and got a taste of our busy life. We think she survived! Babar is in Tulsa right now and we hope to lure them to Kansas City for a little visit. The rest of our summer includes a trip to California to see Mark & his family, a huge country concert with a lot of different musicians there, and a day at Oceans of Fun. And of course, more softball games!

A Janssen Update: 4/28/99

Just an update from the Janssen Family! I still need to dig up a picture for our page! I do have a picture of Gerald that his office put together for me - it has his face on a pro-wrestler's body and long flowing hair. A friend of Rachel's saw it on the bulletin board and said, "WOW! Your dad used to have muscles AND hair!"

Rachel and Greg are finishing up soccer in a few weeks. It has been indoor, so no need to cancel for all the rain we have been having! Softball practice has begun, yet has been rained out many times already. Greg said he doesn't mind practice getting called off so that "his face can rest". He has a little trouble keeping the mitt in front of his face! Bruises 'R Us! Rachel loves both sports but will really miss soccer. Both of their teams are undefeated.

Rachel gets to help her dad lead music on Saturday, May 8th for a Father/Daughter breakfast at our church. I didn't think she would agree, but she enthusiastically said yes! I am providing centerpieces, and the theme is Basketball! Any ideas? Rawlings is donating a ball for each table, but I need to soften it up and keep it from rolling off the table!

We are keeping all the family members in our prayers. John 13:34 "A new commandment I give to you; that you love one another as I have loved you." Gerald, Kay, Rachel & Greg

Gerald . . .

Gerald's architecture firm is busy as usual designing houses. Sad to say, his secretary has cancer and everything is crazy around there. They are so busy that they need to hire another architect. He also leads music and worship in our contemporary service at church. He is in a Men's Bible Study as well as our Couple's Study. Gerald is very excited that spring is arriving and he can get out into the garden and make things grow! His Grandma Janssen passed away last week just a few weeks short of 105. She was a sweet, sweet woman who loved the Lord and couldn't wait to go to Heaven to see Him!

Kay . . .

Kay is no longer creating gift baskets, and really is enjoying being able to use that time for other things. She is able to be up at the school more (room mom, book fairs, parties, etc.), spends time in Bible study, exercise, chauffeurring the kids to sports and music activities, cooking and keeping up with the housework and friends. She also writes the Sunday School newsletter and helps lead Rachel's Girl Scout Troop. She will be taking care of 2 girls this summer during the day. Poor Greg already feels outnumbered! Life is busy and rewarding!

Rachel and Greg ! ! !.

Rachel is loving piano lessons, and playing indoor soccer. She will play softball again this summer too. Greg enjoys playing the drums (yes, we own earplugs!) and playing soccer. He will also play softball this summer and is looking forward to "machine pitch" this year. I'm sure swimming lessons are in store for the summer as well. They both love their Sunday School class and have many friends from Church, school and the neighborhood.

California, Here We Come . . .

We are planning a family vacation to California in August to see Mark, Colleen, Patric ,and Ryan. It can't get here soon enough!
