The Marilyn & Danny Page!
Update 1/29/07
Wow! Another year gone! We spent last weekend with all six greadkids — a great weekend! David turned 12 on the 20th and Daniel is 16 today! We celebrated with them in Killeen. Leslie and David, Avery & Joseph came too, so that's four. On the way back to Austin Sunday we stopped in Pflugerville to see Kayla snd Justin. What a weekend. Plus we got to spend a little time with Daniel's girlfriend, Sarah, a real treat.
We can only be happy and proud, 'cause they're all doing fine and growing by leaps & bounds. Marilyn is hard at work at TNLA but has plans to retire in just under two years, now. She's also busy with Austin Symphonic Band. Danny's just doing TCDA, TODA and is found most Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights at Arts on Real either on stage, backstage, serving as host and bartender, or running the light board. It keeps him busy!
Update 8/8/06
Only good news from the GoodWoods. Kids and grandkids all doing fine — they do keep growing, though. Daniel is 14, David is 11, Avery is seven and starts 2nd grade this fall, and Joseph is three! Kayla starts first grade and Justin recently celebrated his 2nd birthday. Kayla is very excited about school. She also has been taking swimming lessons this summer and just took her first dive from the low board. She loves it! Justin is into everything and trying hard to keep up with his big sister, and he's getting better at it every day!
Daniel and David spent the weekend with us, just 2 weeks before they go back to school. Laura started back yesterday at a new school, Eastern Hills Middle School. We had a great time with the boys. Went to Austin Park & Pizza, an indoor/outdoor, it's-hard-to-explain-sorta place — go carts, miniture gold, boat rides, mountain climbing, baseball batting cages, lazer tag, and lots of arcade games. The boys loved the almost-all-day adventure. Marilyn & Danny were beat! We also went shopping for school clothes. The boys are great shoppers, and we had lots of fun. Leslie, Avery, and Joseph came by the house Sunday afternoon — all in all a great grandkid weekend, and Donald repaired our ancient garage door opener while in town. What a treat to have such a handyman in the family.
Danny's TCDA/TODA Convention was over July 27. We head to San Antonio August 16th this year for Marilyn's TNLA Convention. It'll be the first time TNLA has ever met in San Antonio; we're looking forward to a great time, but Marilyn is looking forward to Augtust 20, Danny's birthday, and the last day of her Convention.
In October Marilyn is taking Danny to Wisconsin where she and Don lived for awhile, and where her oldest son, Michael, was born. Danny thinks it'll be cold; Marilyn promises no show. We're flying into Chicago, then driving to Madison, where M lived. Then we plan to drive slowly up the state to the northern woods. Marilyn loved to camp there years ago, but we'll be statying in a cozy time-share this time!
Babar has been visiting with Rachel & Fitz in Tulsa for the month of July. She'll be coming home to Killeen August 11, and Rach, Danny, and Donald plan to gather for a quick visit on the 12th.
More good news. Donald Bundrant's dad, James, was just released from the hosital after heart surgery, and feels much better than he has in years. Johnnie took a trip to the emergency room this weekend. It turned out to be a potassium imbalance rather than a blood pressure problem as she feared, and she is feeling much better today.
Update 7/13/04
No time for much of an update now . . . Danny's TCDA/TODA Convention is in two weeks, and Marilyn's is in about four! But, click here for the first photo of Justin, born very early July 12, 5 pounds! He was a little early, but Mike & Emily are very glad he's arrived. So is Kayla, who insists Justin is her baby!
Update 7/14/03
No time for much of an update now . . . Danny's TCDA/TODA Convention is in two weeks, and Marilyn's is in about four! But, click here for more new grandkid photos of Joseph David and his Big Sister, Avery!
Update 4/27/03
Things have calmed down a bit around here. Let's see, we have a new grandson, Joseph David (thanks to Leslie and David), we attended Kayla's 2nd birthday party, the last major ASB concert for this season is over, but, oh, summer conventions are just around the corner.
Danny's TCDA Convention is July 29 – August 1 in San Antonio, and Marilyn's TNLA Convention is August 14–17 in Dallas. And there are Board meetings to be hosted, magazines to print, and many plans to be made before that. So, off to the races again!
Danny and Marilyn recently attended Danny's 40th (yes! 40!) Killeen High School Reunion in Killeen. We had a great time. Babar attended the opening reception and was the hit of the evening as one of the few teachers in attendance. She had a good time, too. Danny's classsmates were glad to see him, but said things like, "Oh, is this Mrs Wood?", etc, etc. Nick and Julie Boltz were with us and stayed at Babar's for the weekend. Lots of fun!
Danny had a pleasant surprise last week when Leslie and Joseph came to visit at the new office. Leslie also got to visit with Frank Coachman, who works with TMEA and was her Ellison HS Band director. Then yesterday Emily and Kayla spent most of the day with us while Daddy Mike used the quiet time to do schoolwork. Mike is working on his masters degree. Mike came over later for dinner. Kayla, just turned two, is a delight. We had a great day!
Babar has a new email address: doriswood@mailstation.com. She really needs your help. Please drop her an email so she can "get the hang of the thing!"
Update 1/4/03
Wow! the holidays are over and another year already gone by. Our Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays were great. At Thanksgiving we were in Killeen with Babar and about 25 friends! -- some Woods, some McGuffeys, some Boelsches, and some Swopes. Notably missed were some Criners. Everyone brought food and we ate, and visited, and played a number of hands of Spite & Malice, or etc, and were thankful, indeed, for the joys of family. We are proud to announce that Daniel Bundrant is now a first-stage Spite and Malice player. David is an apprentice in training. On our return to Austin we had a few days with Marilyn's son, Douglas, who was in for a week from San Francisco.
For Christmas we were hosted by the Swopes in Dallas. What a great time! We had a list of players similar to the Thanksgiving gathering. Daniel, David, and Haley provided the constant entertainment. Haley is a doll, and way too wize for her size. Thanks to the Swopes for a wonderful hosting.
We came back to Austin late Christmas Eve and spent Christmas Day with Marilyn's son Michael and his beautiful wife, Emily, and their even beautifuler daughter, Kayla, now about one and three quarters. Kayla is now broken in as a concert attender having gone to see daddy perform with the Austin Symphonic Band at its Christmas concert. Earlier in December we had been in Killeen for Babar's birthday and a first "tree" with Babar and Laura, Donald, Daniel, and David. Those boys are growing up! We also spent an evening with Leslie, David, and Avery at their house for another "tree". Avery is almost four, and also too wize for her size. What a gal!
Not willing to give up the holidays yet, we managed to squeeze about 15 assorted family members into our home in Austin for a New Year's Day feast prepared by Chef Danny. We enjoyed everything from sushi to ribs to champagne and learned a lot about a new thing called a Game Cube.
Now we're back at home and ready for the new year to get going. Paul and Karen have been visiting Austin for awhile now and we've been able to have some very good visits. Colleen has just moved into a new apartment, here, and is busy setting up house. We have an invitation to come see her handiwork later today! We look forward to much more time with the McGuffeys since Paul is semi-retiring (or something like that) and they now have a home in Amarillo, apartment in Austin, and condo in Hawaii! We plan to make a visit to the condo as soon as we can!
We hope you all had a 2002 to match ours, and we look forward to 2003 with hope in our hearts and prayers for peace.
Update 6/30/02
In late April Marilyn and Danny used a "time-share week" that was about to expire, and headed for Lake Tahoe and San Francisco. We flew into Tahoe and drove to San Francisco in the snow! Well, a little snow, for a few miles. Actually they had had over a foot of snow the day before we arrived.
On our way we stopped in Davis for a nice visit with Mark, Colleen, and the boys. It happened to be "Picnic Day", sort of a combination homecoming and parents day at the local University of California, Davis, and we almost found no place to stay. It was a very enjoyable time, and we wish we could have stayed longer.
In San Francisco we stayed at the Bijou, an old converted movie house with pictures of old film stars (some even older the we), and with a small movie auditorium that shows movies. It is really a cute place to stay. We visited with Marilyn's son, Doug, for dinner and for breakfast the next morning before driving back across CA for our week in Olympic Village.
Olympic Village and Lake Tahoe were wonderful in April. Snow on the ground and warm sunshine. Not too many people at that time of the year as most of the serious skiers had given it up for the season. Enough snow for some, though, and we enjoyed watching them. We "nested" and took long walks in the snowy woods! We have a few pictures . . .
Now it's crunch time for Danny and for Marilyn at work. Our conventions are in July and August, so we are working late nights and weekends till that's over. Exciting, but tiring, too. During Marilyn's convention in August we hope to spend an evening with Donald and Shelly in Houston. Mom continues to amaze us with her come-back from her fall and surgery last year, and with her stamina. Paul, Robert, and Dot came through Killeen earlier this month and took her to LaGrange for a visit with Audrey. A week later David picked them up and delivered them back to their respective homes. It was a treat for Mom, and we enjoyed the visit, too. July 12 Rachel and Fitz are coming to fetch Mom for her annual Tulsa month. She isn't packed yet, but can be ready at a moment's notice! She really enjoys her trips to see Rachel, and eat Fitz's tomatoes!
Paul' s daughter, Colleen, has been in Austin a few months, and stayed with us for a month or so while she was finding an apartment this summer. She is a delight and we enjoyed her cute, vivacious spirit. She found an apartment, a roommate, and moved out, but we still get occasional visits. We think she's coming over this evening for dinner. We look forward to it. Our kids are all doing well, and we get to see grandkids regularly. What a blessing that the grandkids are all close. Daniel, David, Avery, and Kayla are precious, and a wonderful enrichment in our lives.
Update 11/3/01
Wow! We've been bad about updating this page! No update in almost a year. Well, we've been busy. Marilyn with her work as Director of Communications at the Texas Nursery and Landscape Association, as Secretary of the Austin Symphonic Band (a perpetual job?), as Finance Chair of FUMC, and as "Gran" -- Kayla's grandmother!
We took a whole week of vacation last month and stayed in our time-share condo in Galveston. The resort isn't even finished, but there was a nice room, tennis, clubhouse, and short walk to the beach! Mike, Emily, and Kayla joined us. Click here to go to their page of vacation pictures. (You'll need to use your back button to return here.) Kayla is a doll, and Marilyn is really enjoying her first contribution to the grandkid pool!
Halloween's just over. We spent the evening in Leslie and David's garage! David and Steve, a neighbor, created a "haunted" garage for trick-or-treat-ers! It was really cool! Danny had a fog machine he was dying to try out (don't ask!) and it was a great addition. Avery was "Dorothy" -- you know, from Wizard of Oz? She was, of course, precious. And she said, "Mybest friendAshley is Dorothy, too!" And she was. She's a blond just Avery's size, they had the same identical costumes, and they were so cute! Well, here are a few pics from the evening. We'll get more from Leslie later.
Donald and Shelly were in town recently on business, and we met them at the Driskill, a wonderful restored downtown hotel, for dinner. It was a real treat for us. Hope we get to do it again soon.
A couple of weeks back, Marilyn's band played in Zilker Park. It was a great evening, weather was perfect, a good crowd, and Laura, Donald, Daniel, David, and Babar came down for a visit that day. First we went to see the new Bob Bullock Texas History Museum. It was pretty cool. Ask the boys about the movie we watched there! We had a great time with the whole visit. Daniel and David are growing up so fast! We'll have a teenaged grandson before we know it!
We're planning the McGill Clan Thanksgiving Gathering for Babar's house again this year. Marilyn and Danny are going home a day early to help Mom get everything ready. Donald and Laura are bringing the now-famous stew over on Wednesday evening for all who will be there already. Please let us know when you're coming. Then Jeff will fry a turkey or two, we'll roast one the "traditional" way, and we hope all of you will chip in to peel, chop, or whatever needs to be done. Mom is feeling fine, and is able to do most anything she wants with her repaired wrists! I think she's remarkable. She had a good long visit in Tulsa with Rachel and Fitz, and is home, now, getting back into her regular swing. All are welcome, so give us a call and let us know when you'll arrive. Another wonderful Thanksgiving gathering of friends and family is just around the corner!
Update 12/18/00
We had a great time this Thanksgiving, with most of the McGill clan represented, at David & Debbie's house in The Woodlands. What great hosts! I took a lot of pictures, and some are actually very good. Some are a tad out-of-focus, or have some extraneous item in them, but, if so, there's something in there that I just couldn't throw out. Click here to have a look. Your browser has to accept frames to view this gallery -- Netscape 3.0+ or Explorer 4.0+ both should do it. If you're on AOL give it a try. If it doesn't work please let me know. It'll be pretty slow to load (takes about 5 seconds on our cable modem, may be over a minute on a 56k modem), so choose a time when you can exercise patience! After the program loads, it moves quickly.
Christmas promises to be a challenge for the clan. The gathering place is Bobbye Sue's house in Dallas. Timing will be the fly in the ointment. Bobbye has declared a week-long Christmas, so whether you can be there before, on, or after Christmas Day, come on. You may not get to see everyone, but sometime or other during that week most everyone will send a representative or two. It sounds like fun, and I can't wait to get there. Marilyn and I will drive up and bring Audrey and Doris. This has come to be a sorta regular thing, and we love it. It makes these family gatherings even more fun for us. We'll return Christmas Day to have dinner that evening with Michael and Emily back in Austin. Emily is beginning to look like an expectant mother now; due date is April. Marilyn and I are almost as excited as Mike and Emily!
Happy Holidays!
Update 10/29/00
We had a lot of trouble getting out of town this year, but after seeing a friend of ours married Saturday evening, we hit the road for Kansas bright and early (noon) on Sunday. This was an initiation for the Avalon, which had never been to Kansas before, so we planned an easy first leg of the journey. Stopping just outside Oklahoma City, we realized we were in Edmond and decided to give Steve and Marilyn a call. Imagine our surprise to discover that we were just a few blocks from their home. In usual Good/Wood style, we enjoyed a surprise visit and appreciated seeing the beautifully landscaped back yard of their home.
Our journey to Kansas City continued, stopping at Marilyn's brother's home in Lenexa which we made home base for the remainder of the stay. We visited with Marilyn's mother and Mr Kitty, enjoyed a trip to Crown Center with Karen and Winston, spent some quality time with Patches (Winston's dog), avoided politics the best we could, and made a very special visit to a restaurant called Andre's where chocolate is king. We visited the recently restored Union Station in Kansas City, Mo. Marilyn's mother remembered welcoming her husband back from World War II there when the Station was at its prime. We enjoyed an IMAX 3-D movie of Mark Twain at the Station that was the closest thing to a holographic experience we have found yet. (Can the Holodeck be far behind?) We spent another day enjoying The Plaza, Kansas City's answer to Rome with beautiful architecture, fountains, and FAO Schwartz.
Choosing between an outdoor football game and an indoor soccer game in 32-degree rainy weather, we enjoyed dinner with Kay and Gerald Janssen in Lee's Summit and watched Rachel play a soccer game. She was gracious enough to score her first goal of the season while we were there.
We were also able to make it up to Atchison to see Marilyn's aunt and uncle, Verlin and Leola Grantham and her cousin Larry. Verlin and Leola are living in an apartment adjacent to Larry's home on the edge of town where they moved recently after Verlin suffered a stroke. Leola and Danny found a common interest in the internet and immediately began exchanging web site work. We are pleased to be adding some Granthams to the family site.
Marilyn stopped by her family
home in Lawrence to say goodbye to the house and pick up some
memorabilia, and then it was off to her 40th high school reunion.
Danny graciously went along to be spouse and visit with people
whom he had never seen or heard of before. Marilyn's old group
of friends showed up nearly intact and it was a very enjoyable
evening. Too soon, it was all over and Sunday was a long haul,
driving back to Texas in one day. Pictures?
Update 9/21/00
The news here is, no big news! Our summer conventions are over and we're back in a somewhat normal groove. OK, I lied. There is big news. Marilyn's oldest son, Michael, and his wife, Emily, are expecting our next grandperson in April! They and we are very excited. Another grandchild in easy driving range. We are so lucky that all our kids except Doug are close by! And Doug gives us a chance to go to San Francisco every now and then. And I think we're about ready to go again.
Rachel and Fitz are bringing Mom home to Killeen tonight after an extended (2 month) visit to Tulsa. She stayed the extra month to have cataract surgery on both eyes. She says she can read the questions on "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" much, much better now! Marilyn and I will be going to Killeen this weekend to see Mom, and Rach and Fitz while they're here. We might also get to see Daniel, David, Laura, and Donald while we're at it.
The week of Oct 1 we're driving to Kansas to see Marilyn's Mom. She lives in Lenexa now in a wonderful retirement facility near Winston and Karen, Marilyn's brother and sister-in-law. It's a nice drive to Kansas and we usually get to see Rachel &Fitz as we go through Oklahoma. This time, we're not sure whether they'll be there! Hope so.
That's it. Update your pages! Send me some info.
Update 3/23/00
I just returned from a 5-day visit to Oklahoma. No, didn't see Rach, it was business. American Choral Directors Association met in OKC and I was Exhibits Chair. Means I sat for two whole days doing almost nothing while great choirs were singing all around me. I did get to listen on Saturday, and the groups were very good.
I managed to work in a visit with Steve, Marilyn, and Jeremy, though. It was my first time to see Marilyn and Jeremy (Brad was busy doing what college guys do on Saturday night!), and it was, indeed, my pleasure. Thank you guys for a wonderful evening. Great house, great folks, and they took me to a great restaurant!
Marilyn and I are settling in for our "dog days"! Spring thru summer is the time of year when our associations keep us very busy preparing for summer conventions. As always, TCDA/TODA will be in San Antonio, and TNLA will meet in Houston this year -- means we'll probably be able to get in a short visit with Donald and Shelly.
Austin Symphonic Band has just been asked to be the"76 Trombones" in a local production of Music Man starring Larry Gatlin in May ! Sure will be fun, but we have a lot to work out. There are 14 shows and they want 40-60 players each show. We'll see.
That's about it. Try to email Babar (doriswood@mailstation.com). She's a bit tentative, but willing, so it won't be long 'till she's keeping the email lines burning.
Update 2/25/00
It's been a long time since an update, so here's the condensed version. Thanksgiving was great! We had lots to eat and lots of fun doing it. Christmas, ditto. We didn't have much time to be in Dallas, but, as always, Bobbye, Shannon, and Jeff were fantastic hosts. We all had good visits, eventho' some came and left before others arrived, etc.
The new year, although hyped to smitherines in the media, came and went without too much hurrah. We felt sorry for all those PC-types having to worry about their computers. Mac took everything in stride! Marilyn and Danny spent New Year's Eve with Nick and Julie Boltz and a few friends. We had a fun evening eating, and singing. Oh, most of the friends were singers from various groups so the event was a self-indulgent orgy of friend singing for friend!
I guess the big news here is already somewhat old -- Marilyn has already had to wash her new Toyota Avalon, so it really isn't new any more. It is beautiful and comfortable, though, and she's almost used to the "luxury" of it all. After all, her last Toyota was 16 years and over 175,000 miles old, even if it does still run like a top! Laura and Donald are using it for an additional "get-around-town" vehicle, so it's still serving well. That's good, 'cause it was all Marilyn could do to "retire" it.
Marilyn and Michael are to be congratulated on a terrific performance a week ago as Austin Symphonic Band produced, "Music -- Sacred and Profane" to a wonderfully appreciative crowd. The horn section had a great solo (melody, even) and they did a bang-up good job. Michael Sizer was a guest jazz clarinetist, and he brought the house down. He spent 6 years traveling with the Dukes of Dixieland, several years in clubs in New Orleans, and more years as a studio musician in San Francisco and Dallas. He helped make it a great evening for music
Michael, and about 12 other band members, will be performing as an off-stage banda next week in Austin Lyric Opera's production of Aida. Some (4 trumpets) will be on-stage, in costume playing "Egyptian" trumpets, which are sorta like herald trumpets. ASB gets paid for these members's participation, and it's a great treat for them to perform in beautiful Bass Performing Arts Canter with ALO!
River City Pops sang and danced one more time toward the end of January, and Danny managed to "make it through the night"(s) one more time. The theme was "Pops at Night" which doesn't suggest anything about the music, 'cause it was really a selection of music from the 30s thru the '90s. Danny got to sing with a guy group doing a Letterman medley which is right up his alley. It was "Goin' Out of My Head/You're Just Too Good to Be True", and "I Believe". It was the highlight of the evening (especially for Danny!).
Here's some news! Babar is going to go "on-line". She doesn't know it yet, but we just bought her a very clever little device called an internet appliance (from a company called netpliance). It really is not a computer; it's just for email and the web. It's very slick, with a simplified, custom-tailored keyboard and browser made especially for internet and computer novices, and when she gets home from her visit to Tulsa, we're going to start her crusin'! Her e-mail address will be doriswood@iopener.net. Is this a kick, or what!? (If anyone is interested in this "appliance" click for more info. It's a great introduction to the net for anyone, young or old, and at a great price.)
Till the next opportunity, bye y'all.
Update 11/8/99
Plans are in the works for the Thanksgiving Bash at Babar's. Sometime during the weekend, looks like we'll get to see Audrey, Bobbye and Jeff, Laura, Donald, Daniel, and David, Leslie, David, and Avery, and Michelle and Donald. Marilyn's son, Michael and his wife, Emily, are a possibility as well. It's going to be fun! And of course, we'll have too much food. So, come on down.
Update 10/23/99 (pics!)
Hi! We recently returned from , well, yes, vacation. I think it's only the second or third we've actually planned and carried out for more than 3 or 4 days.
We drove to Kansas City (actually to Lenexa) where Marilyn's Mother has recently moved into a beautiful retirement facility. We visited with Marilyn's brother, Winston, and his family, then took off with Rachel (yes, another one) to Hannibal MO, "childhood home" of Mark Twain. Seems he was born in a much smaller town, but lived his childhood in Hannibal (small enough, itself). It was great fun. We did all kinds of touristy things, like went the the Molly Brown (the other "famous" person from Hannibal) Theater, took a riverboat ride on the Mississippi aboard the Mark Twain, and visited several museums.
Then we drove back across Missouri and spent an evening in St Joseph (thanks to sister Rachel for the tip). There we visited the Pony Express Museum and a very fine gallery, the Albrecht Kemper. Dropping Rachel (Grantham) off at her new home, we drove to Port Arthur (took 2 days) to spend a couple of days with Marilyn's son, Michael, and his wife Emily. They were spending their 5th anniversary there and had invited us to join them for a bit. We had a great time watching sunrises on the beach and eating all kinds of sea things.
Now we're back and in full swing again. We saw Mandy Patinkin in concert last week, are going to a Tribute to Robert Shaw Concert tonight by Austin Vocal Arts Ensemble, a group that Nick Boltz and his wife sing with I'm on the Board of Directors -- he gets me into all kinds of things), and Austin Symphonic Band plays a concert in the park tomorrow evening. We have managed to squeeze in a babysit with Avery (and see Leslie and David), and hope to get to Killeen soon to see Babar, Daniel and David (and Laura and Donald). That's it for now. Thanksgiving's in Killeen so ya'll come! Let us hear from you.
9/13/99
We've been too busy as usual this summer Danny's TCDA/TODA Convention in late July, and Marilyn's TNLA (formerly TAN) Convention the second week in August. Things should have slowed down then, but no! After a quick couple of weeks to "catch-up", the Austin Symphonic Band started work on an annual fundraising project in cooperation with the local classical radio station, KMFA.
For the last month there have been many (finally over 18,000) vinyl records and a few hundred CDs in Danny's office. Last weekend the sale occurred earning a tidy sum for the band and wearing a whole lot of volunteer workers to the bone (including Marilyn and Danny). That weekend also turned out to be Donald and Laura's 11th anniversary which they celebrated in San Antonio. That left two grandkids stranded with Marilyn and Danny. They were very good record sale help, and we had a very nice weekend. Even got in a visit with Leslie, David, and Avery! Grandkids are great!
The end of September we'll be in Kansas visiting Marilyn's Mom who just moved from Lawrence to an assisted living facility in Lenexa KS. Hope we can get a visit in with the Kansas branch of the FitzSimons family while we're close by. Then we're heading South to the Texas Coast to spend a weekend with Marilyn's son, Mike, and his wife, Emily. They're celebrating their 6th anniversary!
We've also been busy at the FUMC! Marilyn is chair of the Finance Committee this year, and secretary of the Choir Council. Danny's on the Fine Arts Team and is treasurer of the Choir Council. River City Pops! has just started rehearsal for the January show, and Danny's also helping a friend who is producing a full-scale production which will open the middle week of December and run through New Year's Eve at the newly-renovated State Theater. The production is called "Real Live Girls", and is a review of great women's songs from little-known productions (mostly off-Broadway stuff). Blake, the director/producer is Danny's friend from RCP and Marilyn's fellow employee at TNLA. Actually she hired him to work with her on the association magazine as her assistant and graphic artist. Danny will be Stage Manager for the production, and his first assignment was to find a "mud-flap girl". You know, that chrome lady reclining on many a semi's mud flap? Well that'll be the icon of the production. It's going to be great fun and a very good way to spend New Year's Eve! Anyone want to attend? Just let the Stage Manager know.
19 March 99 -- Real Web Sites
We want to invite ya'll to have a look at our other (read, "real") web sites. TNLA is a brand new association, being the result of a merger between TAN and the Texas Association of Landscape Contractors. Marilyn is the person primarily responsible for the merger which took over two years to accomplish! Maybe she'll get to know me again now! Her old association was TAN, the Texas Association of Nurserymen. The new acronym stands for Texas Nursery and Landscape Association.
Danny maintains Ensemble for his association (http://www.ensemble.org), and the River City Pops Home (http://www.ensemble.org/rcp). Hey, here's a good idea. I'll set up a page for Family Links. You email your favorite links and I'll organize them somehow on a page! This should be great fun!
5 March 99 --New Grandkid!
The really big news here is the birth of the 3rd (count 'em) grandkid! Leslie (Wood) and David Dippel are the proud parents of a brand new bouncing baby girl, Avery Michele, born Friday, March 5, 1999 at about 8 am in Austin. Avery had lots of help. Dad helped (yea, right) with the delivery, Grace, Devyn, Danny, and Johnnie were waiting in the wings as Daddy Dave rushed out with the new bundle, headed for the detail shop for cleaning and testing! Avery weighed in at 6 lbs 3 oz and measured 18 and 1/3 inches short! And what a beauty! Looks like a very tiny Leslie to me. See for yourself: Pictures! They're kinda big, so be prepared to wait a few seconds for them to load.
1 March, 1999 -- Babar Doing Fine!
News in Killeen is that Babar (aka Doris Wood) is lookin', feelin', doin' great following her surgery last month. Infection caused one return to the the hospital, but now after a couple weeks of tlc (especially by Rach and Fitz), she's in great shape. Rach will have to leave for Tulsa next week, but we think Babar'll be able to get on just fine. A nurse visits daily to dress the wound, and she can have a 3-time-a-week aide come in to fix a meal, get groceries, sweep the leaves, whatever. Thank you city, state, and fed for this great Older American Assistance Program! She'll love phone calls and letters from one and all.
M & D Anniversary!
Hi ya'll . . . Just celebrated our 7th Anniversary ! We had a great time. Dinner at the beautiful Driskill Hotel in downtown Austin. Then a surprise overnight at the Driskill. Danny didn't tell me . . .
